Harrogate TN — The Lincoln Memorial men's and women's track and field programs will head to Nashville, Tennessee this weekend to compete in the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt University on Feb. 13 and 14. The Railsplitters enter the two-day meet at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility following a highly productive weekend at the Tryon Banked Invitational in Mill Spring, North Carolina, where the teams combined for eleven top ten finishes and eight personal records. This upcoming meet provides another high level opportunity for Lincoln Memorial to test its talent against a deep field of regional competitors as they build momentum for the championship season.
Leading the charge for the men in the previous meet was Luis Borkey who secured a first place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.59 which ranks among the top fifty performances in Division II this season. His brother Joel Borkey also impressed with a sixth place finish in the same event while Vincent Quilici earned fourth place in the 400 meters. The distance group saw strong contributions from Jaxson Branham who took fifth in the 5000 meters and Conner Chandler who placed third in his section of the same event with both athletes recording personal records. In the field events Jackson Clonce anchored the men by placing ninth in the weight throw and 29th in the shot put showing consistency across the throwing disciplines.
The women team was highlighted by Ashley Parrish who delivered a standout performance in the throwing circle by finishing second in the weight throw and seventh in the shot put with a season best mark. On the track Reaghan Curde led the distance runners with an eighth place finish in the mile while Theresa Brosthaus and Jacie Begley crossed the line in ninth and tenth place respectively in the 800 meters. Other notable performances included Callie Wetzel who finished among the top competitors in the 200 meters and Allyssa Gent who recorded a seventh place finish in the 3000 meters. The Railsplitters look to translate these recent personal bests and top ten finishes into continued success over the two days of competition in Nashville.
Competition is slated to begin Friday.
