Baseball seeking third straight conference series victory against Mars Hill

Harrogate, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial baseball team prepares to host the Mars Hill Lions for a three game conference series at Lamar Hennon Field this weekend. The Railsplitters enter the match up with a 9-7 overall record and a 4-2 mark in South Atlantic Conference play. Lincoln Memorial has found success early in the conference schedule, having claimed both of its previous series two games to one with victories over Carson-Newman and Emory & Henry. The team carries significant momentum into the weekend following a dramatic 7-6 walk-off win on Wednesday against Trevecca Nazarene, which was recognized as one of the hottest teams in the region at the time of the contest.

The Railsplitter offense features several consistent contributors at the top of the lineup. Gabe Gray leads the team with a .385 batting average and 25 hits, while Brady Morse has provided a steady presence with a .369 average and 14 runs batted in. Peyton Mullannix has been a force both at the plate and on the basepaths, hitting .333 and scoring 12 runs. Mullannix is currently tied for first in the conference with 10 stolen bases. Other key contributors include Caleb Jordan, who has a .305 average and seven stolen bases, and Aaron Hobson, who is hitting .310 on the year, including Wednesday's walk-off hit against Trevecca Nazarene. Nick Kaelin and Seth Newkirk have also provided a spark in limited appearances, with Kaelin boasting a .389 average and Newkirk slugging .800.

On the mound, Lucas Smith has emerged as a reliable leader for the pitching staff. Smith currently holds a 2.20 earned run average and is tied for second in the conference with three wins from the bump. He has struck out 13 batters over 16.1 innings of work. Payton Armour has provided the most length for the staff, pitching 22.0 innings and recording a team-high 19 strikeouts. Easton Barnett has also been a steady contributor with a 4.58 earned run average and 14 strikeouts. The Railsplitters face a Mars Hill squad that enters the weekend with a 4-10 overall record and a 2-4 record in conference play.

The series is scheduled to begin on Friday with a single game starting at 4 PM. Action will conclude on Saturday with a doubleheader, where the first pitch is slated for 1 PM.
