Baseball preparing for weekend road clash with Newberry

Harrogate, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial baseball team is set to travel to Newberry, South Carolina, this weekend for a pivotal three-game South Atlantic Conference series against the Newberry College Wolves. Both teams enter the match up with identical overall records of 17-10, though the Wolves currently hold a slight edge in the league standings with a 12-3 conference mark compared to a 10-5 record for the Railsplitters. The series is scheduled to begin with a single game on Friday, March 20, at 6 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, March 21, with starts at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The Railsplitters bring a potent offense to the series, led by Gabe Gray and Brady Morse, who have been key fixtures in the lineup, starting all 27 games and hitting .378 and .370, respectively. Morse has been particularly effective in driving in runs, ranking third in the conference with 33 RBI to date. Nick Kaelin has made the most of limited plate appearances, posting an impressive .441 batting average and a 1.263 OPS through 13 games. Caleb Jordan adds further depth with a .367 average and 23 runs scored, while Peyton Mullannix has provided both power and speed, contributing 21 RBI and leading the team with 12 stolen bases on 14 attempts. Other significant contributors on the basepaths include Gray with 11 steals and Kaelin, who has swiped 10 bases without being caught.

On the mound, Lincoln Memorial relies on a pitching staff that has combined for a 4.73 team ERA and 204 strikeouts over 230 innings. Payton Armour has been a workhorse for the rotation, leading the team with 38.1 innings pitched while maintaining a 3.52 ERA and striking out 29 batters. Adrian Smith and Eli Edds have also been vital components of the starting unit, each recording three wins, while Bradric Helton and Lucas Smith have each earned three victories of their own. The bullpen is anchored by Easton Barnett, who leads the staff with two saves and has struck out 22 hitters in 25.1 innings of work. The Railsplitters will look to these arms to contain a Newberry squad that has proven difficult to beat at home during conference play.
