Men's and women's track and field slated for first outdoor meet of season

Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial men's and women's track and field programs are set to open their 2026 outdoor season this Friday, Mar. 20, as they travel to Richmond, Kentucky, for the Eastern Kentucky University Invitational. This event marks the first outdoor competition of the year for the Railsplitters following a successful winter campaign. The meet, hosted at the Tom Samuels Track, will provide the first opportunity for the team to transition their speed and endurance to the outdoor oval against a competitive field of regional opponents.

The Railsplitters enter the outdoor season with significant momentum after a strong showing at the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships in late February. The transition to the outdoor schedule brings the return of several specialty events that are not contested during the indoor months. Coaches and athletes alike are looking to leverage their recent indoor success to establish early qualifying marks for the conference and national postseason meets later this spring.

Track and field head coach Jeff Kavalunas expressed his outlook on the season opener and the importance of this first weekend of competition. "This week is an opportunity to get back into competing and get in a couple of new events for some that are for outdoor only, especially in the throws. We are coming off a great indoor SAC championship meet and would like to keep the momentum and enthusiasm going into the outdoor season", said Kavalunas.

Following the trip to Eastern Kentucky University, the Lincoln Memorial programs will continue their outdoor campaign with a series of meets across the Southeast. The schedule includes upcoming trips to Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee as the team prepares for the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships in late April.
