Harrogate, TN – It's off to Sumter for the Lincoln Memorial women's tennis team, as the Railsplitters head to the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina to participate in the South Atlantic Conference tournament on Thursday.
The Railsplitters enter the tournament after finishing the regular season at 11-11, going 6-5 in conference play to secure the six seed in the conference tournament, drawing Wingate in the opening round.
LMU picked up two wins in the closing week of the regular season, defeating UVA Wise on Tuesday 4-2 in the home finale before defeating rival Carson-Newman 4-2 on Thursday in a key road win.
Alexandra Ortiz and Natalia Reimer dominated the singles courts this season, as the two both earned seven wins to lead the team while Adriana Pellizzari and Rosalie Carrier-Dulac both finished tied for third in singles wins with six. Carrier-Dulac led the team in conference play, going 5-1 in singles matches against SAC opponents.
Over on the doubles court, Pellizzari and Reimer picked up a Railsplitters-leading nine team wins, going 5-3 in SAC matches and a perfect 8-0 from the second doubles position. MAR and Ortiz have also helped lead the way in doubles competition, going 6-5 together with four conference wins.
The Railsplitters look to get their revenge on Wingate, as the Bulldogs took the first meeting 4-0 in the regular season on March 14th in Wingate, North Carolina.
LMU and Wingate will match up at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, as all teams in the conference tournament take to the court at the same time, with the winner of the Splitters and the Bulldogs facing the winner of Lenoir-Rhyne and UVA Wise.
