Harrogate, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial baseball team prepares for its most significant challenge of the season to-date this weekend as they travel to take on the third-ranked Catawba Indians in a pivotal three-game South Atlantic Conference series. Entering the match up with a 26-13 overall record and a 17-7 mark in conference play, the Railsplitters sit just one game out of second place and are looking to close the gap on the league leading Catawba Indians. Catawba currently holds the top spot in the conference with an impressive 29-7 overall record and a 20-4 mark in SAC play, making this series a high stakes battle with major implications for the postseason standings.
The Lincoln Memorial offense has been powered by Gabe Gray, who leads the conference in total hits with 62 while maintaining a team best .390 batting average. Gray has been a constant threat on the bases with 42 runs scored and 13 stolen bases. Joining him at the top of the conference leaderboards is Caleb Jordan, who holds the top spot in the SAC for triples with six. Jordan is hitting .359 on the year and has driven in 32 runs. The Railsplitters also lean on the consistent production of Brady Morse, who has 49 hits and a team-leading 43 runs batted in, and Peyton Mullannix, who provides a blend of power and speed with 13 doubles and 16 stolen bases.
On the mound, the Railsplitters will rely on a pitching staff led by Lucas Smith, who is currently tied for fourth in the conference with six victories. Smith has anchored the rotation with a 3.44 ERA over 36.2 innings of work. Payton Armour has also been a reliable force for the staff, logging a team high 55 innings and recording 41 strikeouts. Adrian Smith and Bradric Helton have combined for nine wins, providing essential depth as the team faces a Catawba lineup that has proven to be one of the most dangerous in the country.
