HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Lady Railsplitters (9-7, 6-4 SAC) look to improve their road trip woes on Wednesday evening as
Krystal Evans leads her team into a South Atlantic Conference battle against the Mars Hill Lions (5-10, 3-7 SAC). Tip-off in Mars Hill, N.C. is slated for 6 p.m. at Stanford Arena.
Â
Lincoln Memorial is 7-2 within the friendly confines of Tex Turner Arena this season, but just 1-4 in five true road tests. The statistics reveal a stark contrast from the team that the Lady Railsplitters put forth at home and the one that shows up on the road. The Lady Railsplitters have shot 45.2 percent from the field and 43 percent from three in nine games at Tex Turner, dishing out 16.7 assists per contest, which would lead the South Atlantic Conference. It's been a different story on the road, where the Lady Railsplitters are shooting just 37.3 percent from the floor, 25.8 percent from three and assisting less than 12 times per game.
Â
Luckily, the Lady Railsplitters head into Wednesday's road trip with a load of confidence after shredding the Queens Royals, 64-44, this past weekend. LMU allowed only 13 first-half points - the fewest by an LMU opponent since Benedict scored 13 on November 15, 2003 - and led wire-to-wire. The Lady Railsplitters dominated nearly every phase of that contest, outrebounding the Royals 40-27, converting 24 turnovers into 23 points and outproducing the visiting unit 32-24 in the paint.
Â
Outstanding guard play has helped the Lady Railsplitters get back on track after being mired in a season-long six game losing streak.
Aisjah Lee's (Louisville, Ky.) recent tear, in particular, has been central to LMU's turnaround, as she has flirted with a triple-double in back-to-back games. Lee scored 20 points, swiped seven steals and grabbed six rebounds against Queens on Saturday. Before that, she posted 12 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in a win over Tusculum. She has scored 10 points or more in four of the last five games.
Â
Lincoln Memorial and Mars Hill met for the first time this season in the South Atlantic Conference opener on November 11, and the two teams put on an offensive clinic in combining for 190 points. The Lady Railsplitters built an 18-point second-half lead and stiff armed the Lions down the stretch to capture a thrilling 100-90 victory, LMU's first 100-point performance since the 2010-11 campaign. Five different Lady Railsplitters hit double figures in the contest.
Kiara Rawls (Killeen, Texas) poured in 15 points, while Lee scored 14 points and
Katrina Ottesen (Chandler, Ariz.) registered 12.
Â
Mars Hill has struggled mightily over the past month, dropping six of its seven games since December 17. The Lions upset Newberry on January 10, but have since fallen 94-85 at Anderson and 85-72 at Catawba. In Saturday's loss to the Indians, Mars Hill shot 35.9 percent from the floor and went 7-of-28 from three-point territory, while allowing its opponent to score 80 or more points for the fifth time in 15 games.
Â
The Lions are producing a respectable 68.7 points per game despite shooting the rock at a mere 38.6 clip for the season. But that production on the offensive end has been totally offset by a defense that is allowing 73.1 points per game on 42.4 percent shooting.
Â
Junior Camille Glymph leads the Lions and the South Atlantic Conference in scoring with 21.6 points per game. Glymph is also producing 5.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and two steals per game. Paige Chavis is contributing 12.9 points and 2.4 assists per game, while Cadence Wilmoth is scoring 9.7 points and grabbing 7.1 rebounds each appearance. Kelsey Espinosa is chipping in 9.1 points and 6.5 boards per game. The quartet of Glymph (30), Chavis (25), Wilmoth (17) and Espinosa (12) combined for 84 of the team's 90 points in that November 11th game against the Lady Railsplitters.
Â
The Lady Railsplitters are 10-7 against Mars Hill since entering the SAC prior to the 2006-07 campaign, but they have experienced some hardships on the road in the series. Lincoln Memorial is 4-4 at Mars Hill over that stretch. The Lady Railsplitters have, however, defeated the Lions three straight times at Stanford Arena.
Â
Tip-off between the Lady Railsplitters and Lions is set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Live stats and a video broadcast will be available via www.marshilllions.com, while fans can also tune in to Voice of the Railsplitters Rusty Peace at WLMU 91.3 the Gap. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:40.
