Women's Basketball Preview: Lincoln Memorial vs. Brevard - Wednesday, January 28

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Lady Railsplitters (10-8, 7-5 SAC) look to continue their dominance at Tex Turner Arena on Wednesday evening, welcoming the Brevard Tornados (3-12, 2-10 SAC) to town for a South Atlantic Conference battle. Tip-off in that contest is slated for 6 p.m. in Harrogate, Tenn.

Lincoln Memorial is 2-6 away from Harrogate this season, but 8-2 within the friendly confines of Tex Turner Arena. Aside from an anomalous loss to King prior to Christmas break, the Lady Railsplitters lone home loss was a narrow 82-78 defeat at the hands of second-place Anderson. The Lady Railsplitters shoot seven percent better from the field, 12 percent better from three and average nine more points per game at home versus on the road.

The Lady Railsplitters have compiled a streak of more than 87 consecutive minutes without trailing in Tex Turner, a stretch that began with a little over seven minutes left in an 85-80 win over Tusculum on January 14.

After leading Queens wire-to-wire last weekend, the Lady Railsplitters did the same to Catawba on Saturday, scoring the first 11 points of the game in a 77-57 romp. The home team put together its most complete performance of the season, shooting a season-high 52.7 percent while limiting the Indians to a mere 28.8 percent, the second-worst by an LMU opponent in 2014-15. Aisjah Lee (Louisville, Ky.), Shea Coker (Knoxville, Tenn.), Kiara Rawls (Killeen, Texas) and Megan Pittman (Liberty, Ky.) combined for 60 of the team's 77 points. Lee logged 17 points in 20 foul-plagued minutes, while Coker and Rawls scored 15 points apiece. Pittman posted her sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 boards.

The Lady Railsplitters have won three of their last four games, but Brevard enters Wednesday's contest with a 1-6 mark since the calendar flipped to 2015. The Tornados are riding a three-game losing skid after finishing up a stretch against some of the league's elite teams, falling by double figures to Newberry (84-57), Anderson (70-57) and Wingate (71-60).

Brevard gave the first-place Wingate Bulldogs a scare on Saturday, though, using a Madison Lenox triple and a Katie Williams jumper to trim the deficit to 62-58 with 3:54 to play. But the Bulldogs closed the contest on a 9-2 run to escape with a 71-60 win. The Tornados were 14-of-28 on two-point attempts, but 9-for-32 from three. Williams (16), Lenox (12) and Lynsey Crisp (12) led Brevard in scoring.

Despite launching more than 21 three-pointers per game, the Tornados rank 11th in the South Atlantic Conference in points per game (58.7) and field-goals made per game (19.8). Brevard is last in the league in field-goal percentage with an even 35 percent clip. Rebounding has also proved troublesome for the Tornados, who rank last in the league in defensive rebounds per game (23.2) and rebounding margin (-10.8). Opponents are scoring 69.5 points per game against Brevard on 41.6 percent shooting.

Williams and Lenox lead the Tornados offensively as Williams is scoring 15.3 points and grabbing 4.1 rebounds per game, while Lenox is pouring in 14.4 points, pulling down 5.1 boards and dishing out 2.3 assists per game. Shelby Wolfe is the team's leading rebounder with 5.4 boards per game, but she hasn't played since a loss at Coker on January 3.

The Lady Railsplitters are 14-2 all-time against the Tornados with wins in the last three head-to-head encounters. Lincoln Memorial easily swept the regular-season series in 2013-14, winning 76-59 at Brevard and 87-59 in Harrogate. In that meeting in Tex Turner, Aisjah Lee racked up 25 points, five rebounds, three steals and three assists before fouling out. Katrina Ottesen (Chandler, Ariz.) bagged four three-pointers to accumulate 14 points in only 17 minutes off the bench.

After Wednesday, the Lady Railsplitters are left with just three remaining home games in the regular season, beginning a closing stretch that takes them on the road for six of the last nine games.

Tip-off between Lincoln Memorial and Brevard is slated for 6 p.m. at Tex Turner Arena. Live stats and an HD video broadcast will be available via www.LMURailsplitters.com. Fans can also listen along live with Voice of the Railsplitters Rusty Peace at WLMU 91.3 the Gap.
