Lady Railsplitters try for sixth straight win at Boshamer Gymnasium, face Brevard on Monday

BREVARD, N.C. -- The Lady Railsplitters (5-3, 2-1 SAC) will aim for their sixth consecutive win inside of Boshamer Gymnasium on Monday at 6 p.m. when they tip off against the struggling Brevard Tornados (1-5, 0-3 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference women's hoops action.

Lincoln Memorial owns a commanding 16-2 lead in the all-time series against Brevard and hasn't lost on the Tornados' home court since 2010, claiming five straight wins in Brevard, N.C. over that span. Those wins haven't always come easy, though, as the Lady Railsplitters pulled out a 46-45 win in 2013 and a 69-66 victory in 2011.

The Lady Railsplitters won for the fourth time in their last five games on Saturday in Bristol, Tenn., overcoming a five-point deficit in the final minute of regulation to force overtime before eventually pulling away with a 78-70 victory over the King Tornado. Lincoln Memorial continued to struggle with turnovers and three-point shooting, committing 27 blunders while going 3-for-14 from deep, but held King to 32.8 percent shooting including a 3-for-20 effort from three-point range. Megan Pittman (Liberty, Ky.) racked up 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Britney Guy (Locust Grove, Ga.) and Shea Coker (Knoxville, Tenn.) had 14 points apiece.

With that victory, Lincoln Memorial has already exceeded its road win total from the entire 2014-15 campaign, when they went just 2-11 outside of Tex Turner Arena. The Lady Railsplitters are now 3-1 away from the friendly confines and have in many ways been measurably better in hostile territory. LMU is shooting 43.6 percent from the field, 25 percent from the three and 67.9 percent from the charity stripe and grabbing 50.5 rebounds per game on the road as compared to 39.2 percent shooting from the field, 12.5 percent from the three, 62.7 percent from the free-throw line and 43 rebounds per game at home.

Brevard enters Monday evening's game looking for its first South Atlantic Conference victory and second overall after falling to 0-3 in league play on Saturday afternoon by suffering an 81-66 setback at Coker. The Tornados were buried in a 47-28 halftime deficit and couldn't recover against the Cobras, who shot 54 percent from the field. Brevard was held to 33.6 percent shooting despite hitting 10 of their 18 three-point attempts.

Brevard has been among the worst in the league in terms of offense, defense and rebounding. The Tornados are ranked dead last in the SAC in field goal percentage with a 32.7 percent clip and field goals made per game with 19.5, while ranking second-to-last in points per game with 59.0. On the boards, Brevard is last in the SAC in rebounding margin, as opponents are outrebounding the Tornados by an average of 8.2 rebounds per game. They are also 11th in the SAC in opponent field goal percentage (43.6 percent) and points per game allowed (70.0).

The Lady Railsplitters should have a distinct advantage on the glass, where they lead the SAC in rebounding margin (+12.3), rebounds per game (45.5) and offensive rebounds per game (16.4).

The Tornados are led by junior guard Madison Lenox, who is averaging 14.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game on 35.6 percent shooting. Senior guard Hadara Bannister is contributing 11.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game on 38.2 percent shooting. Seniors Shelby Wolfe and Katie Williams are chipping in 10.4 and 9.5 points per game, respectively.

Lincoln Memorial put five players in double figures to hand the Tornados an 81-74 loss in last season's meeting in Brevard, as Pittman and Josey Harding (Middletown, Ohio) had 19 points apiece, Guy notched 12 points and Ross Mathis (Greer, S.C.) compiled 10 points. The Lady Railsplitters shot 51.9 percent in the game and hit 6-of-13 from three-point range.

The Lady Railsplitters used a similar formula to grind out a 70-65 win in the first meeting between the two teams in 2014-15, as five players registered at least 10 points. Mathis led the way with a career-high 17 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the three. Coker had 15 points with three triples.

Katie Williams was the catalyst for the Tornados in both of last season's games, combining for 44 points. She racked up 25 points at Brevard after scoring 19 in the first meeting at Tex Turner Arena.

Brevard is 0-2 at Boshamer Gymnasium this season, as they dropped a 63-52 decision to North Greenville on November 18 and lost to Lenoir-Rhyne 78-63 on December 5.

Monday is the second leg of a brutal stretch in which the Lady Railsplitters will play four games in eight days. Lincoln Memorial returns to Tex Turner to face Wingate on Wednesday before completing the 2015 portion of the schedule at Newberry on Satuday. Wingate and Newberry enter the week with a combined 5-2 record in SAC play.
