ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Lady Railsplitters (15-10, 12-8 SAC) will try to snap a four-game losing streak against Anderson on Wednesday night when they invade the Abney Center for a 6 p.m. tip-off against the 21st-ranked Trojans (19-4, 17-3 SAC) in Anderson, S.C.
Â
Lincoln Memorial is 4-9 all-time against Anderson, as the Lady Railsplitters haven't beaten the Trojans since pulling out a four-point victory (62-58) on Anderson's home court in January, 2014. That was LMU's only win ever in the Abney Center, though, as the Lady Railsplitters are 1-5 on the road in the series.
Â
The Lady Railsplitters came ever so close to beating the then 14th-ranked Trojans when the two teams met earlier this season at Tex Turner Arena on January 13, but Anderson pulled off an 88-83 double-overtime victory. In that contest, Lincoln Memorial trailed by seven points with a little over two minutes to go before using a 10-1 run to take the lead with 19 seconds left. However, Alexis Dillard buried two free throws to force overtime. Anderson outscored the Lady Railsplitters 13-8 in the second overtime to steal the win.
Â
Megan Pittman (Liberty, Ky.) posted arguably her best game of the season in that contest, tallying 24 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks in a season-high 48 minutes of work.
Kiara Rawls (Killeen, Texas) had 17 points, six rebounds and four assists, while
Ross Mathis (Greer, S.C.) scored 16 points on 5-of-6 shooting from three-point range. Heather Jankowy led the Trojans with 22 points, while Jennifer Monroe had 20 points and seven rebounds before fouling out.
Â
The Lady Railsplitters head into the final week of the regular season looking to bounce back from a 58-52 loss at Queens last Saturday, which dropped them out of the top four in the South Atlantic Conference standings and into a tie for fifth place. In that game, Lincoln Memorial shot 37 percent and turned the ball over 23 times to help the Royals pick up their third SAC win of the season and first against anyone other than last-place Brevard. Nobody scored in double figures for the Lady Railsplitters, as
Britney Guy (Locust Grove, Ga.) led the way with nine points.
Â
Anderson has already clinched its second consecutive SAC regular season title and third in the past four seasons, as the Trojans are sitting at 17-3 in league play with wins in seven of their last eight games. Anderson most recently defeated Lenoir-Rhyne 61-44 on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans' only loss in February came on the road against Carson-Newman, as the Eagles pulled off an 81-79 win in overtime in Jefferson City.
Â
The Trojans have made their money this season on the defensive end of the floor, where they are ranked first in the SAC and 28th in the country in field-goal percentage defense by allowing just 35.8 percent shooting. Anderson has not allowed 50 percent shooting in a game since January 27, when the Mars Hill Lions posted a 55.2 percent mark in a 20-point win.
Â
The Trojans pair their stingy defense with an efficient offensive unit that ranks third in the SAC in both scoring (70.6 points per game) and field-goal percentage (41.6 percent).
Â
Three different players are averaging double figures for Anderson, led by senior forward Jennifer Monroe, who is putting up 14.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game on nearly 50 percent shooting. Heather Jankowy is averaging 12.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while leading the team in assists with 97. Madison Floyd is pitching in 12.2 points per game with a team-leading 64 three-pointers. Nakia Young has also been a factor for the Trojans, contributing 9.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
Â
A win would go a long ways towards helping the Lady Railsplitters finish in the top four of the South Atlantic Conference and earn hosting duties for their quarterfinal round game in the upcoming SAC Championship. Lincoln Memorial is currently tied for fifth place, but sits just a game back of the three teams (Wingate, Mars Hill and Newberry) tied for second place.
Â
The Lady Railsplitters suffered a 74-69 loss in last season's meeting in Anderson. Lincoln Memorial struggled on offense in that contest, shooting 34 percent from the field, but scored 25 second-chance points off of 22 offensive rebounds and knocked down 19 free throws to keep things interesting.
Stephanie Smith (La Vergne, Tenn.) led LMU with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Pittman had a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards.
Â
Anderson is 10-2 at the Abney Center this season and hasn't lost at home since falling to Carson-Newman on January 21. The Lady Railsplitters are 8-5 on the road, but have lost three of their last four games away from Tex Turner Arena.
