Lady Railsplitters wrap up regular season, celebrate Senior Day against Catawba on Saturday

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Lady Railsplitters (15-11, 12-9 SAC) finish off the regular-season schedule on Saturday afternoon when the Catawba Indians (15-12, 12-9 SAC) invade Tex Turner Arena for a South Atlantic Conference showdown beginning at 2 p.m.

This time last week, Lincoln Memorial was in prime position to host its quarterfinal round game for the upcoming SAC Championship, but that opportunity slipped away on Wednesday night when the Lady Railsplitters suffered their second straight loss in a 67-62 setback at No. 21 Anderson. LMU couldn't get anything going offensively in that contest, shooting 33.8 percent from the field with a 3-for-17 mark (17.6 percent) from three-point range. The game was not nearly as close as the final score indicated, either, as the Lady Railsplitters never led and trailed by as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter before making a late run that ultimately fell short.

Megan Pittman (Liberty, Ky.) led the Lady Railsplitters with 13 points and 13 rebounds, recording her 12th double-double of the season. Pittman is averaging a double-double for the season with 12.2 points and a SAC-best 10.3 rebounds per game, but she has been even better over the Lady Railsplitters' last six games, averaging 13.2 points and 11.2 boards per during that span.

After Wednesday's loss, the Lady Railsplitters can finish no better than fifth in the final SAC standings, while a loss could drop Lincoln Memorial to the No. 7 seed if Carson-Newman is able to beat Coker on Saturday.

Since handing Brevard a 37-point beatdown and moving to 10-5 in SAC play on February 3, the Lady Railsplitters have dropped four of their last six games. Offensive inefficiencies have been at the root of that downward turn, as Lincoln Memorial is shooting 36.4 percent from the field and 20.2 percent from three-point territory while turning the ball over 17.7 times per game over that six-game span.

Catawba enters Saturday's regular-season finale having won seven of its last nine games, but the Indians will be trying to bounce back from a 74-53 loss at Wingate on Wednesday. In that contest, Catawba shot 29.7 percent and allowed the Bulldogs to connect on 49 percent of their shots to fall out of the race for a top-four spot in the SAC standings.

The Indians don't do anything that sticks out on either end of the floor. Offensively, Catawba is averaging 68.9 points per game while shooting 39.3 percent from the field and 31.5 percent from the three. The Indians are the most efficient team in the SAC from the free-throw line, though, shooting 75.1 percent on 19.1 free-throw attempts per game. Defensively, Catawba is giving up 65.5 points per game and allowing 41.9 percent shooting. The Indians are, however, one of the best in the SAC at defending the three-point shot, surrendering just a 29.9 percent clip from deep.

Bri Johnson, Terri Rogers and Jada Huntley are carrying the load offensively for the Indians, as that trio is averaging more than 42 points per game. Johnson leads that group with 16.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game on 41.2 percent shooting, while Rogers is putting up 13.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game on a 49.3 percent clip. Huntley is scoring 12.8 points and grabbing 5.6 rebounds per game.

The Lady Railsplitters have won four of the last five meetings against the Indians and that includes a 64-60 win in Salisbury earlier this season on January 16. In that win, Britney Guy (Locust Grove, Ga.) scored 10 of her career-high 23 points in the fourth quarter to help Lincoln Memorial pick up the come-from-behind victory. The Lady Railsplitters shot 36.4 percent in the game but held Catawba to a dismal 34.5 percent mark and 4-for-15 effort from three. Shea Coker (Knoxville, Tenn.) added 15 points off the bench while Pittman had six points and 16 boards. Johnson led Catawba with 17 points, albeit on 14 shots attempts.

Lincoln Memorial dominated last season's home game against Catawba, winning 77-57 to improve to 6-3 all-time against the Indians at Tex Turner Arena. Coker and Kiara Rawls (Killeen, Texas) led the Lady Railsplitters with 15 points apiece in that game, which saw LMU hold Catawba to 28 percent shooting, while Pittman piled up 13 points and 10 rebounds.

With it being the regular-season and home finale, Lincoln Memorial will celebrate Senior Day with a pre-game ceremony in honor of the program's six seniors. Lakeisha Beasley (College Park, Ga.), Kortnay Cox (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), Guy, Jasmine Kelly (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Rawls and Stephanie Smith (La Vergne, Tenn.) will be honored before they take to the Tex Turner Arena floor for the final time.

Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday. Live stats, video and audio links are available at www.LMURailsplitters.com.
