Last Time Out Â
Lincoln Memorial used a 10-3 run that consumed the majority of the second quarter and the early minutes of the fourth to overcome a 5-1 deficit and defeat Georgian Court 16-10 last Thursday in Lakewood, N.J. That victory snapped a two-game losing streak. The Railsplitters got off to a slow start, falling behind 5-1 early in the second quarter, but fought back to tie the match by the half. Lincoln Memorial then took the lead for good on a goal by
Billy Kopsky (Smithtown, N.Y.) at the 12:26 mark of the third quarter.
Dylan Neisler (Detroit, Mich.) led the way with five goals, while
Kyle Arcuri (Patchogue, N.Y.) produced two goals and three assists.
Adam Golia (Victoria, British Columbia) chipped in with two goals and an assist.
Â
A Pair of Milestones in PlayÂ
A win on Wednesday would mark two milestones for the program. First, it would be the first South Atlantic Conference victory in program history and end an 11-game league losing streak. Second, it would exceed the program's win total from its inaugural season with four matches still remaining on the regular-season schedule. The Railsplitters went 4-10 last season.Â
Â
Golia and Neisler Among National Leaders, Powering OffenseÂ
With two more goals against Georgian Court, Golia leads the SAC and ranks eighth nationally in goals per game with 3.43. Neisler is nipping on his heels, though, as the Detroit, Mich. native is fourth in the SAC and 29th in the nation in that category with 2.71. Behind Golia and Neisler, the Railsplitters' offense has been dramatically improved this season, as LMU is third in the SAC and 24th in the country in scoring with 11.86 goals per game.Â
Â
Arcuri Assisting Â
Freshman
Kyle Arcuri leads the team in assists with 11, while his 1.57 assists per game ranks fourth in the SAC and 34th in the country. The Patchogue, N.Y. native has handed out seven combined helpers in his last four matches.
Â
Last Meeting against TusculumÂ
The Railsplitters held a late lead in last season's tussle with Tusculum in Harrogate, but the Pioneers scored with three minutes left in regulation to tie the game and force overtime. The first overtime passed without consequence, but Tusculum scored 10 seconds into the second overtime to capture a stunning 8-7 win. Neisler led the Railsplitters by scoring three goals, while goalkeeper
Joe Medel (Virginia Beach, Va.) made 13 saves. A big key to the game was at the face-off x, where Tusculum won 12 of the 18 face-offs in the contest.
Â
Pioneers Playing Well Â
Tusculum started the season with three straight losses, falling to two-time defending National Champions Limestone, Tampa and North Greenville, but the Pioneers have since won three of their last five games. They most recently defeated Catawba 11-6 in Salisbury, N.C. to improve to 2-1 in SAC play. The Pioneers led that contest from start to finish, opening on a 5-0 run before the Indians netted their first goal at the 10-minute mark of the second.
Â
Face-Off WoesÂ
Tusculum is among the worst in the country in terms of face-off winning percentage, ranking last in the SAC and 56th in the nation with a 34.8 percent mark. By contrast, the Railsplitters are fourth in the league and 39th in the country with a 46.7 percent success rate at the face-off x.
Â
Ball Security Â
The Pioneers don't turn the ball over very often, ranking sixth in the country in fewest turnovers per game with 13.38. That should make for an interesting battle, as the Railsplitters are ranked second in the SAC and 19th in the nation in caused turnovers per game with 8.43.
Â
Players to Watch Â
Sophomore Tyler Klarner leads the Pioneers in points with 19 (10 goals, 9 assists), while sophomore Dallas Wade leads the team in goals with 14. Ben Boyd and Chris Ryan have compiled 12 goals and two assists apiece for the Pioneers, while Andrew Kransberger has eight goals and five assists. Keegan Bell has also produced double-digit points with eight goals and four assists. Junior goalkeeper Kevin Haggerty has played every minute in goal for the Pioneers, accounting for a 10.28 goals against average with a 52.6 save percentage. Haggerty has stopped 66.1 percent of the shots he's faced in SAC play, which leads the league.
