Railsplitters welcome Notre Dame de Namur from the West Coast on Monday

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Railsplitters (2-1) return to Harrogate for the first time in over a month to host the Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts (2-3) at 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon at the LMU Soccer Complex.

Notre Dame de Namur is making the 2,500-mile trek from Belmont, California to Harrogate, Tennessee as part of a four-game East Coast Spring Break trip. The Argonauts began that four-game tour on Saturday by suffering a 12-10 loss at Lees-McRae, giving the Bobcats just their third combined win over the past five seasons. After Monday's showdown with the Railsplitters, NDNU pays a visit to Young Harris on Wednesday before stopping at Emmanuel on Thursday.

The Argonauts opened the 2016 campaign by winning two of their first three matches, defeating Dominican 10-6 in the season opener and overcoming San Jose State 12-2. But that loss to Lees-McRae was Notre Dame de Namur's second straight, as they fell to Santa Clara in a low-scoring match on February 27, 10-6.

Monday's showdown with Lincoln Memorial will be NDNU's third match against an NCAA opponent this season, as Dominican, San Jose State and Santa Clara are each members of the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA).

The Railsplitters are looking to bounce back from a 20-8 loss to the 20th-ranked Queens Royals in the South Atlantic Conference opener last Saturday in Charlotte, N.C. The first and fourth quarters doomed Lincoln Memorial in that contest, as the Royals took a 5-1 lead after 15 minutes of action and added eight goals over the final 15 minutes to power the victory and hand LMU its first loss of the season. The setback also denied the Railsplitters of their first-ever SAC win.

The Railsplitters hope to replicate their performance in the only other home match this season, when they pummeled the Emmanuel Lions 12-4 back on February 6. That game saw Lincoln Memorial fall behind 3-1 midway through the second quarter before responding by scoring 10 unanswered goals in front of an energetic LMU Soccer Complex crowd. The win moved Lincoln Memorial to 5-4 at home over the program's first two seasons of existence.

Adam Golia (Victoria, British Columbia) aims to continue his hot start for the Railsplitters, as the sophomore attacker has racked up at least four goals in all three of his appearances this season. Golia has already exceeded his goal total from the entire 2015 campaign, as he ranks third in the SAC with 14 goals. Freshman Kyle Arcuri (Patchogue, N.Y.) and sophomore Billy Kopsky (Smithtown, N.Y.) are second on the team with nine points apiece, as both have produced five goals and four assists.

In the loss to Lees-McRae, the Argonauts were led in scoring by Griffin Van Baush's four goals and one assist. Nicholas Wameling put up three goals on six shot attempts. When the Argonauts fell to Westminster College on February 13, Alex Campbell led the way with three goals while Wameling scored two goals.

The Railsplitters will see either junior Xavier Guerrero or sophomore Ethan Espiritu in goal for the Argonauts. Guerrero made the start against Westminster and tallied 10 saves, while Espiritu was credited with 12 stops in the loss to Lees-McRae.

After the Notre Dame de Namur match, the Railsplitters return to South Atlantic Conference by welcoming Catawba to Harrogate on Saturday.

Monday's match is set to get underway at 3 p.m. at the LMU Soccer Complex. Live stats are available at www.LMURailsplitters.com.
