BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Lady Railsplitter beach volleyball team (3-11) went 1-1 in their first two matches of the UAB Blazer Beach Duals on Saturday. They defeated Jacksonville State 4-1 before being swept by host Alabama-Birmingham 5-0.

MATCH ONE VS. JACKSONVILLE STATE
The Lady Railsplitters took control early, cruising to the 4-1 win over Jacksonville State. The win marks the first in program history over a Division I school (NCAA beach volleyball currently has no divisional classifications). 

The duo of Jordan Green (Hazel Green, Ala.) and Fernanda Miaci (São José dos Campos, Brazil) got things going as they made the score 1-0 with their 21-5, 21-12 win at the No 5 position. Bristol Snider (Chattanooga, Tenn.) while Kiera Holland (Columbia, S.C.) and Peyton McDaniel (Morristown, Tenn.) gave the LAdy Railsplitters their second win of the day in a tiebreaker thriller 21-18, 18-21, 15-13. Jamie Jehne (Hollywood, Fla.) picked up their first duals win of the season as they cruised to the 21-7, 21-8 win at No. 2 and gave LMU the match point. 

Samantha Cash (New Carlisle, Ohio) and Erica Whiteaker (Kingston Springs, Tenn.) won at No. 3 21-13, 21-11. The match at No. 1 saw JSU prevail in the tiebreaker to prevent the LMU sweep as the duo of Abby Cash (New Carlisle, Ohio) and Brooke Fleeman (Nashville, Tenn.) fell 21-17, 21-23, 15-10 to the No. 1 pair from Jacksonville State

MATCH TWO VS. ALABAMA-BIRMINGHAM
The Blazers swept all five matches to take the 5-0 win. All of the five were closely contested but the host team prevailed in the end. At No. 3 the duo of Samantha Cash and Whiteaker lost the first set 23-21 before falling in the second set 21-13. Set two was a closely fought contest as Snider and Jehne fell 21-13, 21-18.

At. No. 1 Abby Cash and Fleeman fell 21-14, 21-16 while at No. 5 Green and Miaci fell 21-12 before falling in a close second set 21-18.
