JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Playing in their first-ever matches in their home state, the Lady Railsplitter beach volleyball squad (3-15) dropped a pair of matches at Carson-Newman on Saturday. They lost the first match 5-0 and match two by a 4-1 margin.

LMU will close out their inaugural season weekend after next as they play in a quad match at Stevenson University (Md.), where they will face Stevenson, Carson-Newman and Morgan State. 

MATCH ONE
Carson-Newman handed LMU only their third sweep in the last nine matches as they picked up the 5-0 victory. The matches at the No. 3 and No. 5 positions went to three sets. At No. 3, Samantha Cash (New Carlisle, Ohio) and Erica Whiteaker (Kingston Springs, Tenn.) fell in the first set 21-18 and won set two 21-14, but fell in the tiebreaker set 15-9. At No. 5, Jordan Green (Hazel Green, Ala.) and Fernanda Miaci (São José dos Campos, Brazil) won the first set 21-10 but fell in set two and the tiebreaker 21-19 and 15-11.

The second match saw Green and Miaci pick up the 21-17, 21-14 win after being moved up to the No. 4 position. The duo of Kiera Holland (Columbia, S.c.) and Peyton McDaniel (Morristown, Tenn.) also had a close match at No. 5, where they fell 21-16, 21-19.
