Quick Hits:
-The Railsplitters kicked off the 2017 campaign by suffering a lopsided 20-6 loss at Florida Tech last Saturday. The Panthers opened on a 5-0 run, used another 5-0 flurry in the third quarter and outscored Lincoln Memorial 8-3 in the fourth to power the victory. Florida Tech finished with a 55-21 edge in shot attempts and a 45-21 margin in groundball recoveries while winning 18 of the match's 29 face-offs.
-
Billy Kopsky (Smithtown, N.Y.) and
Adam Golia (Victoria, British Columbia) led Lincoln Memorial with two goals apiece on three shot attempts.
Jared Courchene (Sagkeeng, Manitoba) and
Hunter Clark (Marietta, Ga.) also added goals in the loss.
Kyle Arcuri (Patchogue, N.Y.) made an impact with a team-high five shots, but went scoreless in the match.
-Lincoln Memorial hopes to fare better in the possession categories against Alabama-Huntsville. In the loss at Florida Tech, the Railsplitters turned the ball over 22 times and went 13-for-20 on clearance opportunities. LMU also recovered just 21 groundballs, combining for a mere seven pickups in the first and third quarters when the Panthers outscored them 10-0.
-Senior goalkeeper
Joe Medel (Virginia Beach, Va.) made 14 saves and allowed 16 goals in just over 55 minutes of work against Florida Tech. He was under siege from start to finish, as the Panthers racked up 55 shots and landed 35 on goal. It marked the 10th time in his career that he posted at least 14 stops in a match.
-Lincoln Memorial is looking to avoid its first-ever 0-2 start. The inaugural 2015 squad lost its opener, but rebounded with a 15-6 win over Lees-McRae for the first victory in program history. The 2016 Railsplitters won three of their first four matches of the season.
-The Railsplitters are 7-7 all-time at home, but that is a little bit misleading. Lincoln Memorial was forced to host two home matches in Gatlinburg during its inaugural season due to unplayable field conditions in Harrogate. In games actually played in Harrogate, the Railsplitters are 7-5.
-LMU is aiming to snap a four-game losing streak dating back to the end of the 2016 campaign. The Railsplitters' last victory came against Brevard on April 3, 2016. That was also LMU's last home win as well, as the 'Splitters lost to Coker and Mars Hill in their last two home games of the 2016 season.
-Saturday stands as the first-ever meeting between Lincoln Memorial and Alabama-Huntsville.
