Railsplitters and Bulldogs battle at the LMU Lacrosse Complex Tuesday

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Railsplitters (2-1) aim to win their third straight match on Tuesday afternoon when they host the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs (1-2) at 3 p.m. at the LMU Lacrosse Complex. Lincoln Memorial is coming off of a 15-7 win over Roberts Wesleyan last Tuesday, while Tennessee Wesleyan is hoping to bounce back from a 16-13 loss to Indiana Institute of Technology on Sunday. The match was originally scheduled to be played on Wednesday, but was moved up a day because of projected thunderstorms in the forecast.

Quick Hits:

-The Railsplitters closed on a 9-1 run to crush the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks 15-7 at the LMU Lacrosse Complex last Tuesday. Lincoln Memorial's offensive outburst stole the headlines, but a standout defensive effort powered the victory, as the Redhawks had combined for 41 goals in their two previous matches. The Railsplitters allowed just one goal over the final 25 minutes of regulation to hand the East Coast Conference foe its first loss of the season.

-Sophomore Kyle Arcuri (Patchogue, N.Y.) had five goals and two assists on five shots to lead the Railsplitters in that win over Roberts Wesleyan, while Adam Golia (Victoria, British Columbia) tallied three goals and three assists on a team-high six shot attempts. That duo now has 20 combined points this season. Golia leads Lincoln Memorial with seven goals and four assists, while Arcuri has seven goals and two assists. Billy Kopsky (Smithtown, N.Y.) was kept out of the scoring column against Roberts Wesleyan, but has four points this season on three goals and an assist.

-A win on Tuesday would match the longest winning streak in the brief history of the LMU men's lacrosse program. The Railsplitters defeated Georgian Court, Tusculum and Brevard in succession last season to record the program's only other three-game winning streak.

-Lincoln Memorial is leading the South Atlantic Conference in shots per game with 30.7, but is ranked seventh in the league in goals per game with 10.33. That is due in large part to the quality of shots, as LMU is landing 61 percent of its shot attempts on goal, the sixth-best mark in the SAC. The Railsplitters fired off 34 shots with 25 shots on goal against Roberts Wesleyan.

-Since allowing 16 goals in 55 minutes of work against Florida Tech in the season opener, senior goalie Joe Medel (Virginia Beach, Va.) has turned in a couple of solid performances. He allowed just eight goals with seven saves against Alabama-Huntsville and followed that up with a 10-save effort against Roberts Wesleyan. He has allowed only 15 combined goals in LMU's last two matches.

-The Railsplitters are 9-5 all-time in matches hosted in Harrogate. Tuesday's match is the final leg of a three-game home stand. After Tuesday, Lincoln Memorial travels to Shorter on March 4 before returning to the LMU Lacrosse Complex to host Florida Southern on March 8.

-Tuesday is the first-ever meeting between Lincoln Memorial and Tennessee Wesleyan.

Notes on the Bulldogs:

-Tennessee Wesleyan lost its season opener to Huntingdon College 14-8, but bounced back with a 13-12 win over Saint Ambrose University. The Bulldogs will be playing on just a single day of rest after dropping a 16-13 decision to the Indiana Institute of Technology on Sunday.

-The Bulldogs are led in scoring by sophomore midfielder Roderick Williams and midfielder Drew Wassenaar, who have combined for 28 points this season. Williams has nine goals and six assists, while Wassenaar, a Knoxville, Tenn. native and transfer from both North Greenville and Elmhurst, has 10 goals and three assists. Sophomore midfielders Jacob Brown (7 goals, 1 assist) and Ian Gonzalez (5 goals, 2 assists) have also made major contributions so far this season.

-Freshman Patrick DeMoss has played every minute in goal for the Bulldogs this season, compiling a 14.74 goals against average and a 37.3 save percentage over three appearances.

-Opponents have outshot the Bulldogs 110-85 this season with a 67-60 shots on goal advantage. All told, Tennessee Wesleyan has been outscored 42-34.

-Tennessee Wesleyan hasn't finished with a winning record since the 2014 team went 7-6. The Bulldogs posted a 6-8 record in 2016.

-Gonzalez and Brown lead the team in groundball recoveries with 18 and 11, respectively. Brown is also the Bulldogs' primary face-off taker, as he is 26-for-52 at the face-off x so far this season.

-Brian Feeney leads the Bulldogs in turnovers forced with four. Williams, Jacob Adam and Zach Button-Hutchens have added three caused turnovers apiece.
