Railsplitters close out home schedule against No. 5 Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday

LMU will try to snap L-R's 10-game winning streak

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Railsplitters (7-5, 3-3 SAC) will try to snap Lenoir-Rhyne's 10-game winning streak and spoil the fifth-ranked Bears' (10-1, 6-0 SAC) bid for a perfect South Atlantic Conference season on Saturday when they close out the home schedule at 2 p.m. at the LMU Lacrosse Complex.

Lincoln Memorial heads into Saturday's match with wins in three of its last four appearances, including back-to-back victories over Brevard and Mars Hill. The Railsplitters are firmly in sixth place in the SAC standings and trail Catawba and Queens by just a half-game. Lenoir-Rhyne, meanwhile, hasn't lost since falling to No. 1 nationally-ranked Limestone in its season opener. The Bears extended their winning streak to 10 with a 17-8 dismantling of Queens last Saturday.

Quick Hits:

-The Railsplitters put forth their stingiest defensive effort of the season in last Sunday's 11-4 win at Mars Hill. Lincoln Memorial led that match wire-to-wire, but the Lions closed the gap to 4-3 at the half courtesy of two Jake Trafon goals. However, the Railsplitters outscored Mars Hill 7-1 in the second half and didn't allow a fourth-quarter goal to notch its second consecutive win. LMU converted 11 of its 18 shots on goal, while Joe Medel stopped nine of the 13 shots on goal he faced to pick up his seventh win of the season.

-With its seventh win, the LMU men's lacrosse program has the highest single-season win total in its brief history. The Railsplitters went 6-6 in 2016 and finished 4-10 during the inaugural 2015 campaign. Lincoln Memorial is also on the verge of its first berth in the SAC Championship. The top-six teams in the final SAC standings earn bids to the league tournament, and the win over Mars Hill knocked the Lions two games behind the Railsplitters.

-Adam Golia scored four goals and added an assist in the win over Mars Hill to break his own single-season record for points and goals. The Victoria, British Columbia product is ranked second in the SAC in goals with 34 and fourth in points with 43, surpassing the previous season-high marks of 33 and 41. Golia has multiple goals in his last four matches and has tallied five goals in three different appearances this season.

-Saturday will serve as Senior Day for the Railsplitters, who will honor the careers of Joe Medel and Chris Smith before they play in what could be the final home match of their tenure in the Blue and Gray.

-The Railsplitters boast the third-best scoring offense in the SAC and rank 21st nationally with 12.08 goals per game. That is due in large part to a 33.8 shot percentage, which is also ranked third in the SAC and 13th nationally. Lincoln Memorial has been held below 10 goals just two times this season: a loss at Florida Tech (6) and a loss to Florida Southern (7).

-LMU is ranked ninth in the nation in total groundball recoveries (412) and 10th in groundballs per game (34.33). Hunter Clark has compiled an average of 5.27 groundballs per game, which is ranked fourth in the SAC and 20th nationally. Josh Hernandez is ranked 13th in the league in that department with 3.67.

Notes on the Bears:

-Lenoir-Rhyne is undefeated in SAC play, but has had some nail biters. The Bears narrowly escaped Wingate with a 10-9 win and defeated Tusculum 12-11 in overtime the very next match. L-R also squeaked by Mars Hill with an 8-5 win.

-The Bears didn't have any trouble getting by the Queens Royals last Saturday, as they used a 7-2 first-quarter run to cruise to a 17-8 victory. Eric Dickinson scored four goals and added an assist, while five other players contributed two goals in the demolition. Ben Corrigan had a goal and five assists, while Mike Hanlon scored twice and assisted on two other goals.

-Carried by the nation's second-best man-up offense, which scores on 48.8 percent of its opportunities, Lenoir-Rhyne is ranked seventh nationally in scoring with 14 goals per game. The Bears had been in a bit of a funk before exploding for 17 goals against Queens, as the team combined for just 17 goals in its two previous matches.

-L-R has been a bit vulnerable defensively, ranking 34th in the country in scoring defense by allowing 9.91 goals per game. The Bears are just 42nd in the nation and eighth in the SAC in caused turnovers per game with 7.64.

-Three SAC players have accounted for at least 50 points this season and two play for Lenoir-Rhyne. Hanlon leads the league with 55 points on 26 goals and 29 assists, while Dickinson has 54 points on a SAC-leading 39 goals and 15 assists. Corrigan is 14th in the SAC in points with 31 on 17 goals and 14 assists.

-Ryan Crompton is arguably the best goalie in the South Atlantic Conference, as he has compiled an 8.85 goals against average and a 58.9 save percentage over the course of 11 starts and 535 minutes of action. He is ranked second in the league in save percentage and fourth in goals against average.

Series History:

-The Railsplitters are 0-2 all-time against Lenoir-Rhyne and have been outscored by a combined 23-7 margin in those two matches. That includes a 15-7 loss last season in Hickory and an 8-0 loss in 2015.

-In last season's meeting, the Bears jumped ahead 8-1 by the midway point of the second quarter and the Railsplitters were unable to recover from that deficit. Kyle Arcuri and Billy Kopsky led LMU with two goals apiece, while Hanlon has two goals and two assists for the Bears.
