Railsplitters embark to Hartsville for regular-season finale at Coker Saturday

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Railsplitters (7-6, 3-4 SAC) look to end the regular season on a high note when they take on the Coker Cobras (4-9, 1-6 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Coker Athletic Field.

Lincoln Memorial suffered a 12-7 loss to No. 5 Lenoir-Rhyne last Saturday, but clinched the program's first-ever bid to the SAC tournament in spite of that courtesy of Coker's loss at Queens. The Railsplitters have won two of their three matches in April. The Cobras, meanwhile, snapped a six-match losing streak with a 19-17 win at Lees-McRae on Monday.

Quick Hits:

-The Railsplitters were hanging right with the league-leading Bears last Saturday, but Lenoir-Rhyne closed the third quarter on a 5-0 run and limited Lincoln Memorial to just one goal in the fourth to leave Harrogate with a 12-7 victory. The loss spoiled an absolutely spectacular effort by senior goalie Joe Medel, who made a career-high 23 saves on 35 shots faced. That represents the most saves by a SAC goalie this season, as the Virginia Beach, Virginia native kept the Bears off the board in the fourth quarter while recording eight of his 23 saves that quarter.

-Kyle Arcuri matched his season-high mark with five goals on eight shots and seven shots on goal to lead the Railsplitters in the loss against Lenoir-Rhyne. That was Arcuri's sixth multi-goal effort in his last seven appearances. In SAC play, the Patchogue, New York native leads the Railsplitters with 19 goals.

-Medel's 151 saves are the second-most in the conference behind Catawba's Ryan Applegate. According to the most recent NCAA statistical update, Medel ranks 20th in the country in saves per game with 11.62 and 24th in save percentage with a 55.1 percent mark.

-Regardless of the outcome in Saturday's match, the Railsplitters are locked into the No. 6 seed for the upcoming SAC Championship and will have to travel for their quarterfinal-round match. Lincoln Memorial will face either Tusculum or Queens depending on the outcome of Saturday's matches. Tusculum and Wingate are currently ranked second and third in the SAC standings, but those two play on Saturday to determine the No. 2 seed. A Wingate win would send LMU to Tusculum, while a Tusculum win would send the Railsplitters to Charlotte to face the Royals.

-Adam Golia and Arcuri are ranked fourth and fifth respectively in the SAC in points. Golia leads the team with a program-record 46 points on 35 goals and 11 assists, while Arcuri is right on his heels with 43 points on 30 goals and 13 assists. Arcuri needs just four assists to break his own single-season record of 16, which he established during the 2016 campaign.

-The Railsplitters have won three of their last four road matches this season, including an 11-4 win at Mars Hill, a 16-13 victory at Brevard and a 15-6 beatdown at Shorter. The only loss over that span was a 13-12 setback at Catawba, who had to close on a 5-0 run to snatch victory for the jaws of defeat.

Notes on the Cobras:

-Coker trailed Lees-McRae 7-5 midway through the second quarter before using a 7-0 run that carried deep into the third quarter to snap a six-game losing streak with a hard-fought 19-17 win over the Bobcats. Garrett Kilgore powered that offensive explosion with seven goals and an assist on 13 shots and nine shots on goal, while four other players finished with multiple goals. Rylee Marsh had three goals and four assists, while Vinny Magro notched two goals and four assists.

-The Cobras have struggled on both ends of the field, ranking last in the SAC in goals per game with 8.85 and goals against average with 13.93. Coker has been worse in SAC play with 7.57 goals per game and 14.86 goals against. The Cobras are also last in the league in shooting percentage (26.0) and save percentage (44.6).

-Magro, Marsh and Kilgore lead the Cobras offensively. Magro has piled up 35 points on 20 goals and 15 assists, Marsh has 31 points on 17 goals and 14 assists, and Kilgore has accumulated a team-high 25 goals with three assists. Nobody else has collected more than 13 points for Coker this season.

-Senior goalie Anthony Malik has started all 13 matches for the Cobras this season, allowing 13.67 goals per game with a 44.3 save percentage. He hasn't posted a save percentage above 50 percent since a 13-6 loss at Young Harris on March 19 – a span of six consecutive games. In fact, Malik has failed to save more than 40 percent of the shots he's faced in four of the six matches over that span.

-Coker has been outscored 104-53 in SAC play this season. The Cobras' only SAC win came at Brevard (5-3) on March 11. Coker is also just 1-4 at home compared to a 3-5 mark on the road.

Series History:

-The Railsplitters will be looking to exact some revenge after the Cobras ended Lincoln Memorial's 2016 campaign with a 12-9 win in Harrogate. A win would have sent the Railsplitters to the SAC tournament, but Coker outscored the home team 4-1 in the third quarter to fuel the victory. Nick Borriello and Arcuri had two goals apiece to lead the LMU attack. Marsh had three goals and two assists for the Cobras.

-Lincoln Memorial suffered an 18-9 loss in its only trip to Hartsville in 2015.
