FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The LMU beach volleyball team won both matches in the opening day of the Austin Peay Governor Beach Bash. They defeated Carson-Newman 5-0 and host Austin Peay 4-1.

With the wins, the Lady Railsplitters improve to 10-11 on the season. The wins also make them undefeated against all other beach volleyball teams from the state of Tennessee in the 2017 season to date.

In the first game of the day, LMU defeated Carson-Newman for the third time in two weeks as they blanked the Eagles 5-0.

Flight No. 1 saw Abby Cash (New Carlisle, Ohio) and Jamie Jehne (Hollywood, Fla.) face LMU's toughest test of the day as they fell in the first set to Taylor Lowe and Anna Patton 21-23 before rallying for the 21-12 win in the second set and the 15-8 win in the tiebreaker set.

Samantha Cash (New Carlisle, Ohio) and Danielle Ged (Smyrna, Tenn.)  picked up the 21-17, 21-15 win at No. 2 over Allie Foster and Kendall Cooley while at No. 3 Brooke Fleeman (Nashville, Tenn.) and Bristol Snider (Chattanooga, Tenn.) won handily over Alex Biro and Hannah Robertson 21-7, 21-15.

In the No. 4 flight Kiera Holland (Columbia, S.C.) and Lindsey Nartker (New Carlisle, Ohio) defeated C-N's Eileen Anderson and Marnie Streeter 21-15, 21-13 and in the fifth flight Erica Whiteaker (Kingston Springs, Tenn.) and Beka Wachob (Milton, Fla.) won over Elena Vasquez and Erin Harwood 21-15, 21-16.

The second game saw LMU pick up the 4-1 win over Austin Peay, marking the second time this season they have defeated the Governors.

At the No. 1 flight, Abby Cash and Jehne defeated Ginny Gerig and Christina White 22-20, 21-14 while Samantha Cash and Ged won over Kaylee Taff and Kristen Stucker 21-16, 21-14 at No. 2.

Holland and Nartker had LMU's toughest fight of the day as they pulled out the 14-21, 21-17, 15-12 win over MiMi Arrington and Jenna Panning at No. 3. It was their tenth win of the season. At the No. 4 flight APSU's Allie O'Reilly and Cecily Gable bested Fleeman and Snider 21-19, 21-17 for the Governors' lone win of the day.

At No. 5 Whiteaker and Wachob also picked up their tenth win of the season as they defeated Ashley Slay and April Adams in three sets 19-21, 21-16, 15-11. The wins today by Whiteaker/Wachob and Holland/Nartker tie both duos for second-most wins in a season. They both have the chance tomorrow to tie or break the school record of 11 set last year by the tandem of Fernanda Miaci and Jordan Green last season.

In the extra flight Austin Peay's Alexandria Thornton and Logan Carger won over Kaylee Stone (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Kayla Kidney (Chandler, Ariz.) 21-16, 21-12.

The Lady Railsplitters will face Spring Hill tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. Central Time and will probably play in the tournament's championship match at 2 p.m. Central Time tomorrow afternoon, which will also be the 2017 season finale.
