HARROGATE, Tenn. – The LMU women's basketball team are seeking to send out their three seniors in Royal fashion as Queens visits the Tex Turner Arena for a Saturday afternoon tip-off. The game will be streamed world-wide on ESPN3 as part of their NCAA DII Basketball Showcase. Admission is free as fans are being encouraged pack the house.
LMU comes into the contest with a 16-10 overall record and an 11-8 record in SAC play. Their 16th win came against third-ranked Carson-Newman 89-87 Wednesday evening in the Tex Turner Arena.
The win over third-ranked C-N was the second-highest ranked team that LMU has ever beaten. They defeated then second-ranked and defending national champions Delta State 76-66 on Dec. 4, 1993. Both those wins came in the Turner Arena.
LMU grabbed the lead late in the first quarter and held off several runs by the Lady Eagles to tie the game. Eventually the Lady Railsplitters would lead by 19 with a little under eight minutes left. The 19 point deficit was the largest that C-N has had in any game this season. A combination of C-N heating up and LMU turnovers off the Lady Eagle press allowed C-N to cut the lead to one with 14 seconds remaining. Kayla Stubblefield missed a short jumper that was rebounded by LMU's
Cameryn DuBose, who was then fouled. She hit one of two free throws to make the lead 89-87. C-N's Haris Price was driving for a potential game-tying or game-winning shot when
Emily Griffith stole the ball as time was expiring, giving LMU the upset win.
LMU had six players in double figures for the game, led by
Qua Hines with 20 points, including a 6-6 night from the free throw line.
Shea Coker and
Jordan Brightwell each had 14 points, while
Dasia Maxwell chipped in 10 points.
Cameryn DuBose had her second double-double of the year with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
Emily Griffith had nine assists and five steals.
Haris Price led C-N with 27 points. Kayla Marosites had 19 points and eight rebounds while the SAC scoring leader, Mika Wester, had 18 points. Briana Smith chipped in 14 points.
