St. Petersburg, Fla. – The LMU beach volleyball team started their spring break trip with a pair of losses Monday afternoon as Eckerd took both games of a doubleheader by 5-0 margins

The team played 715 miles from home, but only 35 miles from the LMU campus (the LMU Tampa campus, that is) as they had several close matches, but were unable to get any points out of them.

In the first match, the no. 1 flight of Abby Cash and Lindsay Nartker kept it close as they fell 21-19, 21-15 while at no. 2 Danielle Ged and Hailey Lake fell in three sets 18-21, 21-12, 16-14. Rylee Storms and Erica Whiteaker fell 21-10 and 21-12 at the no. 3 flight, and Kai Wesemann and Danielle Stachura lost 21-10, 21-12 at no. 4. In the extra flight, Beka Wachob and Tone Gill also forced a third set before falling 21-11, 19-21 15-9.

In the second match, Cash and Nartker once again were narrowly defeated by 21-18 and 21-15 margins. Ged and Lake had a similar fate by 21-16, 21-11 scores. Whiteaker and Storms also fought hard at the no. 3 flight before ending up on the wrong side of 21-14 and 21-17 margins. Wesemann and Stachura fell 21-14, 21-18 at the no. 4 flight and Kayla Kidney and Sarah Jones were bested at the no. 5 flight by scores of 21-13 and 21-18. Wachob and Gill won the extra match over Rachel Cornatzer and Samantha Bevilacqua 21-17, 21-16, but those results do not count towards the team score.

LMU will continue their spring break road swing through as they travel to Lakeland to face Florida Southern and Tampa on Tuesday before playing Webber International and Saint Leo on Wednesday to conclude the trip.
