Railsplitters look to stay atop SAC standings, battle Bulldogs on Saturday

WINGATE, N.C. – Looking to keep pace atop the South Atlantic Conference standings, the Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team ventures to Wingate, N.C. on Saturday to face the Wingate Bulldogs at 4 p.m.
 
The Railsplitters (10-1, 4-0 SAC) remained in a tie for first place in the SAC standings, won their eighth consecutive match and notched the first 10-win season in program history on Wednesday with an 18-9 win at Mars Hill to kick off a three-game road trip.
 
Wingate (4-5, 2-1 SAC), meanwhile, dropped an 18-5 decision to two-time defending national champions and No. 7 ranked Limestone last Saturday. Prior to that, the Bulldogs picked up their first two SAC wins of the season with victories over Mars Hill and Catawba.
 
Lincoln Memorial will be seeking its first-ever win against Wingate, which is 3-0 all-time in the series. The Bulldogs squeaked by the Railsplitters in 2015 10-9 and won much more decidedly in 2016 (18-10) and 2017 (14-7).

- The Railsplitters were tied 5-5 with Mars Hill at the tail end of the second quarter but outscored the Lions 13-4 over the final 34 minutes to move to 4-0 in SAC play. Adam Golia led the charge with two goals and four assists while Billy Kopsky tallied two goals and two assists. Kyle Arcuri dished out four assists and Robert Tucker led the team with three goals.
 
- With his two-goal, two-assist effort, Kopsky became the third player in program history to surpass 100 career points. Golia is the program's all-time leader with 188, while Arcuri is second with 123. Dylan Neisler is also approaching the 100-point threshold with 91 entering Saturday's match.
 
- The Railsplitters lead the nation in assists, assists per game, ground balls, ground balls per game and points per game. In addition to that, Lincoln Memorial is top five nationally in caused turnovers per game, scoring offense and scoring margin. Lincoln Memorial also boasts the nation's second-best winning percentage behind only No. 1 Le Moyne.
 
- The Railsplitters are now tied with Mercy and Young Harris for the longest current active winning streak in the nation. Lincoln Memorial is also one of only three teams with 10 wins this season along with Lenoir-Rhyne and Rockhurst.
 
- Golia has been arguably the most productive player in the country. The senior leads the nation in points per game with 6.27 and ranks in the top five in assists per game and goals per game. Golia has already obliterated the program single-season scoring record with 69 points and needs just two goals to break his own record for goals.
 
- The Railsplitters' man-up unit posted a sensational 6-for-12 effort against Mars Hill. In total, Lincoln Memorial ranks 10th in the nation in man-up offense, converting on 44.7 percent of those opportunities. Chris Tucker leads the nation with seven man-up goals.
 
Know the Opponent:
 
- All five of Wingate's losses have come against teams represented in the USILA national poll. The Bulldogs suffered a 6-5 loss to No. 10 Mercyhurst and a 9-8 loss to receiving votes Indianapolis. Lynn, who is also receiving votes in the national poll, topped Wingate 14-9, while No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne and No. 7 Limestone dropped the Bulldogs as well.
 
- Wingate also has a pair of signature wins as the Bulldogs opened the season with a 9-8 win over No. 18 Florida Tech and later beat receiving votes Florida Tech 9-5.
 
- The Bulldogs average the fifth-most goals per game in the conference with 9.22. Wingate is ranked fourth in the SAC in goals per game allowed with 9.78.
 
- Wingate has a balanced offensive attack as no player has more than 20 points while six have at least 12. Alex Llerandi leads the team with 20 points on 15 goals and five assists while Jeremy Sullivan is nipping on his heels with 13 goals and six assists. Josh Ferentinos leads the team with 11 assists to go along with seven goals. Conor Gronbach leads the way with 16 goals. Gronbach has scored 11 of his 16 goals in conference play.
 
- Senior Jacob Ormerod and sophomore Ryan Ahrens have split goalie duties for the Bulldogs. Ormerod has started six matches, posting a 9.58 goals against average with a 48.6 save percentage while Ahrens has made three starts and compiled a 10.17 goals against average.
 
- Wingate commits the second-fewest turnovers per game in the conference with just 13.78. The Bulldogs lead the SAC in man-down defense with a 77.8 percent rate.
 
- Wingate is 2-3 at home this season compared to 2-2 away from Wingate, N.C. Two of the Bulldogs' three home losses came against teams ranked in the top seven nationally in L-R and Limestone.
