CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The LMU beach volleyball team split a pair of matches in the opening day of the OVC Challenge. They fell to Spring Hill 3-2 and defeated Jacksonville State 3-2.

The Lady Railsplitters started things off with their third meeting of the season with Spring Hill. LMU won flights one and two (and the exhibition flight) but the Badgers swept flights 3-5 to take the victory. All of LMU's losses were in three-set tiebreakers.

Kayla Kidney and Sarah Jones started things off with the 21-18, 21-12 win over Katie Beth Gammon and Patty Blood in the exhibition match.

LMU's Beka Wachob and Tone Gill fell to Emily Sullivan and Emmarose Neibert in three sets, 21-11, 19-21, 15-12 at no. five while at no. 4 Catherine Milwee and Taylor Hurst won over Danielle Stachura and Kai Wesemann 21-12, 17-21, 15-10. The Badgers then took the match with the 21-14, 13-21, 15-12 win by Caroline Herrera and Allison Weimer over Rylee Storms and Erica Whiteaker.

The Lady Railsplitters then picked up two points as Hailey Lake and Danielle Ged won over Emily Greim and Payton Gidney 21-16, 21-12 at no. 1, followed by Abby Cash and Lindsay Nartker picking up a 22-20, 21-16 win over Sarah Senft and Brittany Bilotti at no. 2.

Against Jacksonville State LMU rebounded with a 3-2 win, with the two losses being very close matches.

Kidney and Jones picked up the 21-17, 21-15 win over Kim Krutsinger and Kennidy Powell in the exhibition flight and Wachob and Gill defeated Ashley Clingan and Maddie Cloutier in three sets in flight no. 5 19-21, 21-14, 15-12.

JSU picked up a point at no. 4, where Kaylee Frear and Grace Jarnagin bested Stachura and Wesemann 21-19, 21-18.

Storms and Whiteaker then put LMU ahead 2-1 with their three-set 21-12, 17-21, 15-13 win over Hailey Hughes and Shayla Schmidt at flight no. 3. The Lady Railsplitters then took the match with the 23-21, 21-18 win by Cash and Nartker over Cahris Ludtke and Hannah Kirk at no. 2.

JSU's Katie Will and Sadie Anderson pulled out the 21-16, 16-21, 15-8 win over Lake and Ged at flight no. 1 to close out the match.

Play continues tomorrow when they play tournament host Austin Peay at 10:30 a.m. (9:30 CT) and Morehead State at 3:30 p.m. (2:30 CT).
