TAVARES, Fla. – The LMU beach volleyball team will have a big weekend in store as they are participating in the inaugural AVCA Small College Beach Volleyball Championships, which will be held at the Hickory Point Beach Sand Volleyball Complex in Tavares, Florida, Saturday and Sunday.
Fifteen teams will compete at the event. There are seven NCAA Division II schools who will play for a championship, and eight schools from Division III, the NAIA, and the California Community College Athletic Association who will compete with each other for a championship.
The Division II Championship will feature the teams broken up into two pools, one of four teams and the other of three, that will play on Saturday to determine seedings for bracket play on Sunday. LMU will be in the four team Green Pool along with Texas A&M Kingsville, Tampa and Florida Southern. The Yellow Pool consists of Eckerd, Spring Hill and St. Leo.
LMU will play TAMK at 9 a.m. and Tampa at 1:00 p.m.
This will be the first-ever meeting between LMU and the TAMK Javelinas. They are currently 12-10 on the season.
Tampa defeated the Lady Railsplitters in their inaugural meeting back on March 27.
The Lady Railsplitters have played all of the other schools in the DII Championship at least once this season.
Following this weekend's tournament, they will play at Carson-Newman on April 14 and close out the regular season in the Ohio Valley Conference Challenge April 20-21, where they will face Jacksonville State, Spring Hill, Austin Peay and Morehead State.
