TAVARES, Fla. – The LMU beach volleyball team competed in the inaugural AVCA Small College Beach Championships Saturday and Sunday.
LMU went 0-5 for the weekend in the tournament's Division II Championship, falling 5-0 to Texas A&M – Kingsville, 4-1 to Tampa and 5-0 to Spring Hill on Saturday. Sunday saw a pair of 3-2 losses to Saint Leo and Florida Southern.
All of LMU's wins over the weekend came at the no. 2 and no. 5 flights. At no. 2,
Abby Cash and Lindsay Nartker picked up LMU's lone point of the Tampa match with their straight-set 21-12, 21-11 win. On Sunday, they won both of their flights, winning over SLU's Jamee Townsend and Brooke Turner 18-21, 21-14, 15-8 and over FSC's Sydney Marshall and Makena Wilson 21-10, 21-12. Two of their other three matches went to tie-breakers as they fell to TAMK's Macy Berg and Madison Brabham in a hard fought 19-21, 21-15, 16-14 match, and then fell to SHU's Brittany Bilotti and Sarah Senft 15-21, 21-8, 11-15.
Tone Gill and
Beka Wachob picked up a pair of wins at the no. 5 flight on Sunday, winning 21-15, 21-17 over SLU's Annabell Arcari and Allie Daul 21-15, 21-17; and over FSC's Katie Bergeron and Courtney Charnaco 21-16, 21-11.
Three of the flights against TAMK went to tiebreaker sets, and two did against Tampa, Spring Hill, Saint Leo and Florida Southern.
LMU will play at Carson-Newman on April 14 and close out the regular season in the Ohio Valley Conference Challenge April 20-21, where they will face Jacksonville State, Spring Hill, Austin Peay and Morehead State.
