Beach Picks Up Pair of Wins over Huntingdon College Friday in Georgia

Lady Railsplitters victorious in 9-of-10 doubles matches across 5-0 and 4-1 triumphs

LaGRANGE, Ga. – Evening its 2021 record at 3-3, the Lincoln Memorial University beach volleyball team scored two neutral-site victories over Huntingdon College Friday afternoon at the Strack Beach Volleyball Courts in LaGrange, Georgia. The Lady Railsplitters were triumphant to the tune of 5-0 and 4-1 scores, dropping just one doubles match across the two outings in the Peach State.

Seniors Sarah Jones and Yileen Ng He, juniors Gabriela Abreu, Emily Walter and Caitlin Bethell, along with sophomore Karlie Dennard and freshmen Kristen Moehring, Olivia Snyder and Finley Sims, were all undefeated Friday.

Abreu and Jones teamed up for a 21-19, 21-16 match-clinching win at the top spot in the opener versus the Hawks as Ng He and Moehring took care of business at the No. 2 flight, 21-12 and 21-13. Dennard and Sims were also dominant at the No. 5 spot with a 21-14, 21-13 victory and the freshmen tandem of Haley Brown and Katie Cardenas earned a 21-19, 21-17 triumph over Huntingdon's Josie Hester and Jordan Hollis at the No. 4 flight. Walter and Snyder then completed the sweep with a comeback at the third flight. After dropping the first set, 21-19, Walter and Snyder bested the Hawks' Lauren Hinton and Morgan Ilsley in sets two and three in convincing fashion, 21-11 and 15-11.

LMU's second matchup with Huntingdon yielded nearly the same result, however, the late-afternoon affair featured two three-set doubles matches. Abreu and Moehring teamed up for the first time of the year and allowed just 20 combined points at the No. 2 flight in a 21-5, 21-15 rout, while Dennard and Sims claimed their second win of the day at No. 5 (21-17, 21-14). Also picking up their second victory of the afternoon were Walter and Snyder at the No. 3 flight as the pair cruised to 21-12, 21-11 outcome. Also teaming up for the first time of 2021, Ng He and Jones bounced back from a 21-19 opening set loss at the top flight against the Hawks' Audrey Horsley and Amy Tyma with a 21-16 set two win and a strong 15-6 third set. The final match of the day proved to be to be the most competitive with Hester and Hollis of Huntingdon outlasting Brown and Cardenas 16-14 in the third set at the No. 4 spot.
