Cross Country Runs Well at Charger Invitational

Huntsville, AL – In the final meet of the regular season, the Lincoln Memorial Men's and Women's Cross Country teams fared well against strong competition in the Charger Invitational, hosted by the University of Alabama-Huntsville. The women ended the day ninth in the 6k, while the men finished at 11th in the 8k.

THE BASICS 

  • Location: John Hunt Park; Huntsville, AL 

  • LMU Men: 11th out of 26 teams (334 Points) 

  • LMU Women: 9th out of 28 teams (241 Points) 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

  • As he has all season, junior Jaxson Branham led the Railsplitters men's team by running his second-best 8k time of his collegiate career. 

  • Greta Chizzali led the women's team on the day, finishing the race with a career-best time in the 6k. 

  • LMU women finished 61 points ahead of fellow regionally ranked foe Charleston (W.V.), who entered the day ranked ninth in the Atlantic region. 

FOR THE RAILSPLITTERS  

  • Senior Simon Fillers ran his best 8k of the season so far, finishing with a time of 25:52.0 to finish at 58th. 

  • Freshman Roman Borgetti-Metz set a new personal best for the 8k, ending the day with a time of 26:48.0. 

  • Conner Chandler would follow in Borghetti-Metz's footsteps, as the junior would set his best time in the 8k with a 26:53.7, beating his old personal-best by just under two minutes. 

  • Sophomore Joel Boerkey would be the fourth Splitter to set a personal high-water mark in the 8k, running a time of 27:10.7, besting his old mark by just over minute.  

  • On the women's side, six Railsplitters would finish with career highs in the 6k. 

  • Theresa Brosthaus finished second for the LMU women, as well as setting a personal-best in the 6k, as the Junior finished the day at 46th while running a 22:45.9. 

  • Junior Weslyn McIntosh ended third on the Splitters for the morning, coming in 50th with a time of 22:50.3. 

  • Sophomore Jacie Begley ran her best 6k of the season, finishing with a mark of 23:10.2. 

  • Emma Hainzer would break her personal-best time in the 6k, as the Freshman finished with a time of 23:37.8 

  • Sophomore Allyssa Gent beat her old personal-best time in the 6k by 90 seconds, finishing the race with a time of 23:50.5.

  • The Railsplitters will next race in the South Atlantic Conference Championships on October 25th hosted by Tusculum University.
