Branham Named First-Team All-Conference Amid Strong Cross Country Championship

Greeneville, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University Men's and Women's Cross Country teams put together top performances in the South Atlantic Conference championship meet, hosted by Tusculum University. Each team finished fourth out of the 12 competing teams in the conference, with the men running the 8k and the women running the 6k.

THE BASICS 

  • Location: Kinser Park; Greeneville, TN 

  • LMU Men: 4th out of 12 teams (125 Points) 

  • LMU Women: 4th out of 12 teams (126 Points) 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

  • On the Men's side, Branham's fifth place finish marked the fifth time this season he led the LMU squad on the day, as Branham was named First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference 

  • The Railsplitter men had three other runners finish in the top 30 of teams scores, netting LMU the fourth-best team score on the day. 

  • For the Women, McIntosh was the leading runner for the Splitters for the fourth time this season, as she was named Second-Team All-South Atlantic Conference 

  • Like the men, the women had four total runners finish in the top 30 for competition, netting them the number four position. 

  • With both teams finishing fourth, this marked the third consecutive season both the men and women finished top five in the conference.  

FOR THE RAILSPLITTERS  

  • Freshman Vance Laster finished 28th in the men's race, coming in second for the Railsplitters with a time of 28:27.1, his second-best 8k time of the season 

  • Senior Sam Fulton helped fill the Railsplitters team score, finishing right behind Laster with a time of 28:30.7 

  • Simon Fillers ran his best 8k of the season, as the senior placed 30th with a time of 28:34.1 

  • Roman Borgetti-Metz rounded out the top five for the Railsplitters, ending the day at 33rd with a mark of 28:52.1 

  • For the women, Sophomore Greta Chizzali finished second for the Railsplitters with a time of 25:26.2, good for 23rd in the field 

  • Emma Hainzer helped the Railsplitters team score by finishing three spots behind Chizzali with a time of 25:41.3  

  • Senior Reaghan Curde came in 27th with a time of 25:41.9 to finish fourth for the Railsplitters 

  • The women's top five was rounded out by Theresa Brosthaus, whose time of 26:16.7 was good enough for 36th in the field and aided the Splitters in claiming the fourth position in the race.

  • "The men ran really well and executed their race plans and kept their composure with strong finishes in the last 2000 meters. The women had a great finish and ran smart races to move up through the field the second half of the race. Very strong races from McIntosh, Chizzali, Hainzer, Fulton, Laster, and highest finish ever in SAC meet for Branham."

  • LMU will close out the season with the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship race, hosted by Wingate University on November 8th.
