Railsplitters Finish Well in NCAA DII Cross Country Southeast Regionals

Wingate, N.C. – It'll be another consecutive top 10 regional finish for Lincoln Memorial Cross Country, as both the Men's and Women's cross country teams placed in the top 10 in the NCAA DII Southeast Regional Championship race, with the women taking sixth place in the 6k and the men taking eighth place in the 10k.

THE BASICS 

  • Location: Wingate XC Facility; Wingate, North Carolina 

  • LMU Men: 8th out of 28 teams  

  • LMU Women: 6th out of 29 teams 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

  • The men's team finished at the same position they entered the day in the regional rankings, as the top eight of the region remained the same 

  • The women finished sixth among regionally ranked opponents, as the Railsplitters placed two runners in the top 50 of the meet 

FOR THE RAILSPLITTERS  

  • First-team All-South Atlantic Conference Jaxson Branham led the Railsplitters men's team for the day, finishing each meet for Lincoln Memorial first-place on the team with a time of 33:57.6 

  • Senior Sam Fulton finished one spot behind Branham, finishing 48th with a time of 34:01.0 

  • Fellow senior Simon Fillers would finish a trio of consecutive finishes for the Splitters, as he ended the race 49th, just four tenths of a second back of Fulton at 34:01.4 

  • Freshman Roman Borgetti-Metz ran his first collegiate 10k, finishing with a time of 34:27.2 to come in 58th in the meet 

  • The Railsplitters top five was rounded out by Luis Boerkey, who came in with a time of 34:45.3 to set LMU up at eighth in the race overall 

  • Emma Hainzer led the women's team while also setting a personal best in the 6k with her time of 23:32.3, besting her time from the Charger Invitational 

  • Sophomore Greta Chizzali finished one spot behind Hainzer, coming in 32nd with a time of 23:34.0 

  • Second-team All-South Atlantic Conference Weslyn McIntosh would finish third for LMU, ending the race with a time of 24:05.2, her second-best 6k time of the season 

  • Senior Reaghan Curde would finish fourth for the Splitters, coming in 62nd in the race with a time of 24:12.7 

  • Jacie Begley rounded out the top 5 for the Lincoln Memorial women's team, as the Sophomore finished 64th in the 6k with a mark of 24:19.9

  • The Railsplitters will wait to see if they've earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship race on November 22. The selections will be released Monday, November 10 by 5 p.m.
