Track and field sets seven school records in Atlanta

Atlanta, GA – The Lincoln Memorial track and field teams were back in action over the weekend in Atlanta, GA at Emory University for the Emory Thrills in the Hills Meet. After opening the season at Eastern Kentucky last week, the Railsplitters seem to be finding their groove, turning in a multitude of wonderful performances in the Peach State, including personal bests and school records. School records set over the weekend: Harper Russell (800m) 2:14.98, Jaxson Branham (3000m steeple) 9:33.82, Grace Rose (5000m) 17:34.37, Ashley Parrish (shot put, hammer, discus) 39ft, 4in, 142ft, 8in, and 119ft., Lidija Djokic (400m hurdles) 1:04.14.

Lidija Djokic was the only Lincoln Memorial athlete to secure a first place finish over the weekend, taking 1st place in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.14. Patrick Zuralski turned in a top-5 finish in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 55.21. Teammates Hunter Preston and Micah Dunn finished 13th and 17th with times of 58.44 and 1:00.19 respectively. Vincent Quilici finished just outside the top-10 in the men's 200m, finishing 11th with a time of 21.73. Jack Hill finished 66th in the men's 200m with a time of 23.76 and took 25th in the men's javelin with a throw of 102ft, 1in.

In the women's 800m, a trio of runners secured top-10 finishes, headlined by Harper Russell with a new PR and school record, sub-2:15 7th place finish, posting a time of 2:14.98. Theresa Brosthaus was right on her heels, finishing 8th with a time of 2:15.21. Jacie Begley finished closely in 10th with a time of 2:16.50. Katilee Croft secured a 33rd place finish with a time of 2:29.12.

In the women's shot put, Ashley Parrish turned in a top-10 performance, securing 6th with a throw of 39 ft, 4in. She also took 6th in the women's discus with a throw of 119ft and 6th in the women's hammer throw with a throw of 142ft, 8in.  Kylee Alvis was just outside the top-10 in shot put, finishing 11th with a throw of 37 ft, 5 ¼ in. She also finished 11th in the women's discus with a throw of 108ft, 9in. Cate Turner secured 29th with a throw of 30ft, 10 ½ in. in the shot put and 12th in the women's hammer with a throw of 133ft, 11in. Nevaeh Kerns took 18th in the women's discus with a throw of 90ft. She finished 11th in the women's hammer with a throw of 134ft. In men's shot put Avery Hatfield took 20th with a throw of 37ft, 1 3/4in. He also took 18th in men's hammer with a throw of 123ft, 6in. Teammate Nathan McBride took 21st in the men's hammer with a throw of 117ft, 8in and 14th in the men's discus with a throw of 125ft, 1 in
.
In the women's 100m qualifying round Trinity Hine posted a time of 12.60 to secure 8th place. She also took 18th in the women's 200m with a time of 52.74. Teammate Eryonna Gore finished 46th with a time of 27.01. Allyssa Gent posted an 11:51.34 to secure a top-5 finish, taking 4th place in the women's 3000m. In the women's 100m hurdles, Maggie Sanderson locked down a 21st place finish with a time of 17.97.

In long distance events, Jaxson Branham took 2nd place in the men's 3000m steeple with a 9:33.82 finish. Reaghan Curde secured 12th place in the women's 1500m invitational with a time of 4:47.12. In the men's 1500m invitational, Marig Engelbrecht locked down a top-10 finish, placing 6th with a 3:57.71 finish. Spencer Baldwin took 13th, posting a 4:02.29. The tandem of Aubrey Bachtel and Olivia Truelove secured a pair of top-10 finishes, finishing 6th, with a time of 20:21.90 and 7th, with a time of 20:24.81 respectively. Conner Chandler had a strong performance in the men's 5000m open, securing 4th place with a time of 16:16.19. Christopher Daniels took 8th with a time of 16:34.90 and David Gober secured 13th with a time of 16:49.19.  Grace Rose had a very strong finish in the women's 5000m invitational, placing 3rd with a time of 17:34.37. Weslyn Mcintosh placed 14th, posting a time of 18:34.32. In the men's 5000m invitational, Simon Fillers locked down a top-10 finish, placing 7th with a time of 15:15.02.

Director of Track and Field, Rochelle Black, heaped praise on his teams, highlighting the personal bests and school records set over the weekend. "This weekend was a very successful one, with a high number of personal bests and a handful of school records," he said. "I'm especially excited at the continued growth of our distance runners. They took full advantage of the weather. Now, we go back to our regular schedule of classes. We're looking forward to next month. We should continue to sharpen ourselves."
