HARROGATE, Tenn. – After helping the Lady Railsplitters close out the season-opening King Invitational with three straight wins, junior
Kiera Holland (Columbia, S.C.) has been selected as the first Holiday Tire Railsplitter of the Week award winner of the 2016-17 year.
Holland – a 5-9 outside hitter hailing from Columbia, S.C. – powered the Lincoln Memorial women's volleyball team (3-1) to wins over Virginia-Wise, Erskine and King this past weekend in Bristol. Over the Lady Railsplitters' four-match stint in the King Invite, Holland averaged 3.17 kills, 3.00 digs and 0.75 blocks per set while hitting .217.
After a so-so day on Friday, Holland brought her A-game on Saturday, tallying a season-high 15 kills, 18 digs and five blocks in a four-set win over Erskine, the defending Conference Carolinas regular-season and tournament champions. She also helped the Lady Railsplitters amass a .330 team attack percentage in a 3-0 win over King, collecting 10 kills, four digs and three blocks while posting a .318 hitting clip. For her efforts, Holland was named to the King Invitational All-Tournament Team.
It's early, but Holland currently ranks fifth in the South Atlantic Conference in total kills (38), ninth in kills per set and 21st in digs per set.
Holland and the Lady Railsplitters will make their Mary Mars Gym debut and open South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday night, when they host the Tusculum Pioneers at 7 p.m.
