No. 11/24 Lady Railsplitters face Carson-Newman in Saturday high noon SAC Semifinals showdown

GREENVILLE, S.C. – After falling to #25 Anderson 69-51 in the SAC Tournament Semifinals last season, LMU Head Coach Krystal Evans closed her post-game press conference with the words "we'll be back." The No. 11/24 Lincoln Memorial University women's basketball team has kept that promise and are back in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament Semifinals for the second straight season. This time with a loftier goal, win the SAC Tournament Championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. First up is a Saturday high noon semifinals meeting with Carson-Newman, a team that played LMU close in both meetings this season but fell short to the Lady Railsplitters on both occasions.

LMU is currently 25-3 overall and ended the regular season 19-3 in SAC play. They are currently ranked eighth in the latest D2SIDA National Media Poll and ninth in the WBCA/USA Today NCAA Division II Coaches Poll.

With their 19 SAC wins, LMU captured their first-ever South Atlantic Conference Championship in women's basketball. The 19 SAC wins by LMU are a new program record for conference wins and the second-most in SAC history. Anderson went 20-2 in the 2014-15 season.

In their quaterfinal round game vs. Queens, LMU opened the game on 16-3 run and never looked back as they coasted to the 84-57 win. After the run, the closest that the Royals would get is nine points and they would trail by as much as 36 before closing the game on a 9-0 run to cut the LMU lead to 27.

Emily Griffith (Oliver Springs, Tenn.) led the team in scoring with a career-high 18 points as she was perfect for the evening, going 7-of-7 from the field, 2-of-2 from three-point range and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. Megan Pittman (Liberty, Ky.), who became LMU's first CoSIDA Academic All-American earlier in the day, nearly had a school-record 33rd career double-double as she finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Shea Coker (Knoxville, Tenn.) had 12 points, including five three-pointers and Ross Mathis (Greer, S.C.) chipped in 11 points.

Queens' Maggie Stewart led the Royals with 22 points, and McKell Oliverio added in 11 points. It was the final game for both seniors. Oliverio was also named Queens' first CoSIDA Academic All-American in basketball earlier in the day as well. She and Pittman were the only women's basketball players from the Southeast Region to make the team.

Saturday's game will be streamed on ESPN3 and the South Atlantic Conference will be providing live stats. Links to those are available at the top of this page or on www.lmurailsplitters.com.
