LMU Athletes Hall of Fame
The setter is much like the quarterback in football or the point guard in basketball. She/he is in charge of the offense, and decides who should get the ball and when. It doesn't matter how good a team's hitters are if it doesn't have a setter that can consistently deliver a good ball to hit. Katie Holly Rhoads fulfilled that definition well. She still ranks in several career categories, including 1st in Assists (4,423) and Assists Per Set (9.85); 2nd in Attack Percentage (323), 3rd in Service Aces (176); 4th in Matches Played (135); 5th in Service Aces Per Set (39); and 10th in Digs (1,209).
The four-year starter was an excellent communicator who had tremendous understanding and love for the game, her teammates and her school. Because of her work ethic, Katie earned several honors and awards during her LMU career including the Railsplitter Award and being named the LMU Tournament Most Valuable Player and Ashland Tournament Most Valuable Player.
She and husband Larry live in Oregonia, Ohio, and are parents to Harper, Colton and Cooper. Katie enjoys playing volleyball and coaching.
"Being inducted into the LMU Athletes Hall of Fame means I am joining an elite group of athltes that had passion and dedication for their sport the way I did. I am honored and humbled to have my name next to LMUs finest athletes. Since volleyball is a team sport, I would not be receiving this award without my wonderful teammates!" -- Katie Holly Rhoads
"Katie was a great leader on the floor and always kept us looking forward rather than dwelling on mistakes. As a setter, she was often the unsung hero, but I think I can speak for my teammates when I say that we couldn't have done it without her. I applaud her in her accomplishments, not only as an athlete, but in many other areas of her life. She is very desersing of this honor and I appreciate the opportunity to welcome her to the Hail of Fame. Congratulations! " -- Krystal Yount Burke, '02, teammate
"Katie is deserving of the honor of being inducted into the Athletes Hall of Fame. She was a good leader and the 'quarterback' that helped her team to be successful. She worked extremely hard and had such a high volleyball IQ that it made coaching her fun. Hard work and dedication will always be associated with Katie along with the respect of her teammates. Congratulations Katie!!" -- Mike Smith, 92, 94, Coach
