Senior guard Gerel Simmons erupted for a career-high 37 points on 13-of-21 shooting to lead the 17th-ranked Railsplitters to a 98-82 win over arch-rival Carson-Newman last Tuesday night in the South Atlantic Conference opener at Tex Turner Arena. That was the most prolific single-game scoring performance by an LMU men's basketball player since three-time All-SAC forward D'Mario Curry poured in 41 points against Catawba on December 14, 2010.

Simmons followed that up by scoring 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting in the Railsplitters' 114-69 win over the Virginia-Wise Cavaliers on Saturday at Tex Turner Arena. The Accokeek, Md. native, who is pacing Lincoln Memorial with 17.8 points per game, has now netted at least 15 points in four consecutive appearances.
